Happy New Year

Buses parked in front of University College Hospital London

In front of University College Hospital at Euston in London on a mid-winter’s day, 2012. Buses resting on a stand before they set off to fleece the citizens of London with the annual “fare rise” ripoff. A single journey (just one stop even) on one of these beasts could cost you £2.10. The fares on London Transport have risen by 30-40% since 2009. And they talk about bankers! Let’s add the Mayor Of London to that list!

Bluefriars Station

The new Blackfriars Station spanning the River Thames in London will be completing and opened in stages over the next 6 months. The station spans the River Thames and passengers can access the station from both the north and south banks. Already a new station entrance on the Southbank has opened giving train travellers easy access to the Tate Modern.

Down on the Farm

barn in cheshire

I was staying in a cottage on a working farm in Cheshire last week. Unfortunately the hens were exhausted from hen-partying late into the night so I was left with the image of this barn in quiet darkness on a grey afternoon.

Shop Window *21st Century

Let’s hope not. Camden Town street scene August 2011 after street scenes of a very different nature at the beginning of this week. A wake up call. But will us sleepy heads get out of beds and to use an unfortunate phrase, “take stock of where we are” or let the wool get pulled over our eyes?

Is it a bird, is it a man…

competitor at red bull art of motion london 2011

I headed to the National Theatre this evening for a spot of free entertainment courtesy of Red Bull. Free running has always intrigued me and tonight’s show, although a little more stage managed than I might like was still exciting to watch although difficult to capture in pixels.

Can’t See the Piano for the Trees

St Giles Central complex close to Tottenham Court Road station in London

St Giles High Street and the new Renzo Piano construction “with winter gardens on every floor and over 17,000 sq ft of roof terraces. More than just an office building it’s a workplace (sic). Connecting people to the outdoors” … and so the promotional copy goes. Maybe it’s time the urbanscape started connecting the outdoors to the people. We could just skip the building bit.
