Jane Austen Festival in Bath

Royal Crescent, Bath

Unlike the Night Carnival in London, the Jane Austen Festival in Bath isn’t a regular date in my calendar, but I did travel to Bath yesterday to see the Promenade. A friend was visiting the Festival from Amsterdam, along with seven other Austeneers from Holland. The festival continues all week. A chance to bring your favourite JA novel to life.

Night Lights

Night Carnival is one date in the calendar I can’t miss. This week’s photo, today’s even, comes to you from the Embankment in London. I will add a new page this week devoted to the carnival including some of Pio Blanco’s snaps of the fireworks; the best firework display I have seen for some time.

Shiny Jaguar

It has to be said I am a plane person. I don’t know why. My earliest memory of plane spotting as a child was running into the back yard when I heard the flying doctor coming into land at the local aerodrome about half a mile away. Last week I saw the installation Harrier and Jaguar by Fiona Banner at the Tate Britain. I preferred the shiny Jaguar.

Fruits of Agritecture

green tomatoes

During this summer I have conducted my own agritecture experiment; a vegetable patch on the roof of the building. In many respects it worked. Except for the tomatoes. Perhaps it was the plants I bought from the 99p shop in the High Street, or maybe it was my gardening. I chose the green ones mostly for this photo because by the time they ripen they are no longer fine specimens.

Monnels

honeysuckle

This week’s photo was taken in Catalonia, in the exceptional medieval town of Monnels near La Bisbal. I went there with friends. We had a leisurely walk around the town and a drink at a bar in the porticoed square. There was honeysuckle and wisteria everywhere. Some of the wisteria still had a few blooms, but the honeysuckle was in its stride.

Rose Garden

The week’s photo is not really this week’s photo but it is representative of several days this summer which I spent taking photos in the wonderful rose garden in Regent’s Park. The roses are all gone now, but I thought I would squeeze in this pic of the Yellow Rose Family as the first one.
